In SStars Mamoru decides he wants to study overseas for a year much to the distress of Usagi. (In the anime it’s episode 173 and in the manga it’s act#43.) Before leaving he gives Usagi a wedding ring. In episode 197 Sailor Galaxia recalls how she aquired Mamoru's starseed. Mamoru is on a plane flying to the US. The plane is caught in a shaft of blinding light. Mamoru steps out on the wing as Tuxedo Kamen to investigate. There, he meets a senshi clad in gold. he attacks her but he is neutralized with a blast from her wrists. He warns her that the sailor senshi will stop her. His body dissolves leaving only a shining crystal. (I think my favortism for Galaxia has stunted the mood of this scene which I find is particularly unmoving.) Before episode 197, Usagi is unaware of Mamoru's death. She calls him at the University without any return from him. She then worries that he forgot her. In the manga she views his death, which later haunts her periodically in her dreams and visions in cards. Here’s some background on Harvard, the school he was going to attend. Harvard was founded in 1636, 16 years after the pilgrims landed on Plymouth. It was so named after John Harvard who left half of his estate to the University. It is the oldest institution of higher learning in the US and the most prestigious. I even hear they send you a certificate if they except you! Six American presidents have attended Harvard and Harvard has produced 34 Nobel Laureates. The first students at Harvard were actually ministers in training. But that changed after the first president, John Leverett, of the university was elected. He wasn’t a clergyman so he was able to broaden the curriculum away from Puritanism but to academics. Harvard is broken up into Harvard University and Radcliffe College but students attending Radcliffe will still receive diplomas from Harvard. You can learn more abut Harvard at their offical website. http://www.harvard.edu/ I named the section Boeings because Boeing is a plane manufacturer. I just couldn’t think of a name dealing with Harvard so I made one from the plane incident. And FYI the quote (in the image) is a very summarized version of a scene from the manga, not the anime. |
